WOW!House 2026 – Max Rollitt Dining Room

MBMC Studios contributed specialist decorative finishing to the dining room designed by Max Rollitt for WOW! House 2026.

Rollitt’s room, developed in collaboration with Schumacher, draws from 18th-century architecture, not as reproduction, but as a sensibility. Proportion and detail do the work, so historical reference is carried with a lighter, more contemporary hand.

Our contribution focused on the specialist surface decoration of the joinery throughout. Panelling, window frame and the fire surround were approached with the restraint and material understanding that sits at the core of our studio’s work. The final finish felt genuinely of its period. Architectural and time-worn, without overstating either quality.

Antiqued Distemper

A refined painted and antiqued joinery treatment in a soft off-white distemper, the traditional finish for interior joinery in heritage buildings. The gentle matt, crystalline quality of the paint evokes the character and patina of an authentic Georgian interior without overstating it.

The finish is built through layered colour washing and nuanced tonal variation, hand-applied and selectively scrubbed back to reveal depth and movement within the surface. The restrained patina creates a subtly time-worn aesthetic with a dry, chalky elegance, authentic and architectural, understated rather than overtly decorative.
